Stuck on I-75? Skip the Monroe Construction and Roll Up to Luna Pier

If you’ve driven I-75 north out of Toledo lately, you know the drill. Orange barrels, lane shifts, brake lights. MDOT is rebuilding a big stretch of I-75 in Monroe County, and it’s slowing down pretty much everyone headed toward Monroe and beyond.

What’s going on with I-75 near Monroe?

MDOT kicked off a rebuild of I-75 in Monroe County on March 13. Here’s the quick version, straight from MDOT:

• Where: About 3.2 miles of I-75 from Otter Creek Road to LaPlaisance Road, plus repairs on five bridges.
• What it looks like: Northbound traffic has been moved over to the southbound side, with two lanes each way sharing one side of the freeway. MDOT has also had lane and ramp closures near LaPlaisance and Otter Creek roads.
• How long: This season’s work is scheduled to wrap around November 13. The southbound side is scheduled to be rebuilt in 2027, and the full project runs into November 2027.

Translation: if you’re heading to a cannabis shop in Monroe, you’re driving straight into the construction zone. Luna Pier is a few exits before it starts. Check Mi Drive for live closures before you head out.

The easy route from Toledo: Exit 6, no cones
